Acting as an occupational physician: Future-oriented, interdisciplinary and evidence-based with AI

BAKI “Occupational Health Action: Future-oriented, interdisciplinary and evidence-based with AI” is a junior research group within the framework of the funding program ‘Research on Health in the Working World’ of the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and the BMAS. It aims at the participatory, human-centered and iterative development and evaluation of a digital assistance system to support the work of occupational physicians. The first module “BAKI-AI” collects multimodal physical, psychological, social, organizational and technical data of virtual workers that is important for occupational health, analyzes it and learns to identify, classify and predict predictors of health-relevant outcomes and to create individual resource and risk profiles. New starting points for occupational health action with regard to virtual working are identified and predictions for prevention are derived. In the next step, occupational health management (OHM) measures are assigned to the resource and risk profiles. In the second module “BAKI-Social”, telemedicine options such as social virtual reality (VR) and chatbots are explored, developed and evaluated in order to use digital social spaces to strengthen the visibility of company doctors and access to virtual workers as well as to occupational health management measures in the virtual work context.

The formation of the junior research group will create interdisciplinary competence profiles with diverse development opportunities in future-oriented research fields.
