Gastvortrag von Dr. Lukas Otto: The Smartphone as a tool for communication research - situational, longitudinal, and behavioral aspects of media reception and -effects.

Am 21.11.2023 dürfen wir Dr. Lukas Otto von GESIS – Leibniz-Institut für Sozialwissenschaften zu einem Gastvortrag an unserem Lehrstuhl begrüßen. Der Vortrag findet von 16 – 18 Uhr im Zentralen Hörsaalgebäude (Z 6) im Raum 2.005 statt, wozu alle Interessierten herzlich eingeladen sind. Thema des Vortrages ist „Das Smartphone als Instrument der Kommunikationsforschung“: Since Smartphones are an ubiquitous companion of people they are a valuable tool for social scientists On the one hand, they can be used for intensive longitudinal (survey) designs to study communication processes (e.g. experience sampling). On the other hand, mobile devices capture digital behavioral data (e.g. App usage data) that can be used to answer questions in communication research and media psychology. The talk will give an overview of different designs and studies on political communication, social media usage and -effects, learning and attention processes in mobile communication and how these studies use the Smartphone as a tool for studying communication processes.
