Monitoring and regulation of learning: Generation tasks, eye tracking, and beyond

„In dieser Klausur werde ich sicher gut abschneiden“ oder auch „Das ging gar nicht, ich wusste fast nichts!“. Solche und ähnliche Sätze kann man vor oder nach Prüfungen hören. Dabei handelt es sich um metakognitive Einschätzungen des eigenen Wissens. Prof. Dr. Anique de Bruin (Universität Maastricht, NL) wird hierzu am Mittwoch, 21. Oktober um 16 Uhr s.t. einen Vortrag im Raum 0.005 im Zentrum für Mediendidaktik halten. Alle Studierenden und Institutsmitglieder sowie Interessierte sind hierzu herzlich eingeladen.

Abstract

Accurate self-judgments of learning are the first step on the way to effectively self-regulating learning, and thus to fuelling learning achievement. Yet, self-judgments are typically inaccurate and formal education is limited or absent. In this presentation, I will discuss research showing that generation tasks (generating keywords, diagrams) improves monitoring and regulation of learning. I will also discuss insights from eye tracking and current work on fMRI that provides novel views on how students monitor and regulate their learning. Finally, a link will be made to potential future work on the regulation of cognitive load.
